Smart Thermostat
A smart thermostat is a home automation device that controls your heating and cooling system. A smart thermostat can schedule heating and cooling within your home, intelligently learn your patterns and preferences, and automatically adjust the temperature accordingly. Many smart thermostats also offer remote access to control the device with your mobile phone.
Be sure to find one that is compatible with the wiring of your existing thermostat. Depending on your heating system, you may have two, three, four, or five wires, and your switching may be high-voltage or low voltage. Beyond that, look for one that has an app that you like so that you can set the temperature remotely.
By having your house at lower temperatures in winter when you are not there (higher temperatures in summer), you can save energy while maintaining comfort. The thermostat will learn a schedule to keep the temperature just right when you want it.
The first thermostat appeared almost 400 years ago (in 1620), when Dutch inventor, Cornelis Drebbel fabricated a mercury thermostat to help regulate the temperature of his chicken incubator.
