LEED is one of the most widely recognized sustainability standards and stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It was created by the US Green Building Council and has been adopted in Canada by the Canada Green Building Council.
The goal of the LEED standard is to guide today’s building industry towards best practices for sustainability. LEED covers much more than just energy. It goes by points, and you need a certain number of points to reach each level.
The LEED Rating System counts eight categories:
Ordinary code-compliant building practices are considered prerequisites and are awarded 0 points.
In each category, better building practices earn 1 point and the best building practices are awarded
2 points. There are four levels you can reach:
