More and more people are buying mini-split heat pumps. And it’s easy to see why! They are affordable, they save you money, and they save energy. They also keep your home warm in the winter and nice and cool in the summer.
In this video, we take a deeper look into mini-split heat pumps, their costs, and when you can expect to see savings on your power bill. Keep in mind though, that your savings are only as good as the amount of insulation you have, and the current heating system that the mini-split replaces.
They are relatively easy to install, but be sure to work with a reliable heat pump contractor to ensure you have the right size of heat pump and that it is installed correctly. The size of a heat pump is typically denoted by the amount of BTU/hour that it produces and they are most commonly available in 9000, 12000, and 15000 BTU/hour sizes. A larger home may require multiple units.
When shopping for mini-split heat pumps, be sure to look for the Energy Star label, and these three performance ratings when choosing (the higher the better): COP (Coefficient of Performance), HSPF (Heating Season Performance Factor), and SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio - more related to cooling).
