Fiber Cement Siding
Siding boards made of cement, sand, and fiber. Some brands mimic the look of wood siding such as shingles, clapboard or board, and batten.
Look for manufacturers that use local or recycled materials and are using alternatives to fossil fuels to power their manufacturing facilities. Some manufacturers are attempting to make bricks out of alternative materials such as fly ash, a by-product of coal-burning power plants.
Fibre cement siding is durable and can last a long time without needing to be painted; however, the manufacturing process is energy-intensive because of the cement content.
Fibre cement siding is a relative newcomer to the exterior world, having been developed in the 1980s.
