Electric Storage Water Heater

Electric storage water heaters contain an electric heating element to heat the water in the tank to be used for showers, dishwashing and other domestic uses.

Water heater performance is rated by an energy factor (EF); the higher the better. Conventional electric storage water tanks do not meet Energy Star standards but hybrid tanks are available that have both a heat pump and an electric element as back up.

To meet Energy Star standards a minumum EF of 2 is required for tanks less than 55 gallons and an EF of 2.2 is required for tanks over 55 gallons.

Conventional electric storage water heaters don't have particularly sustainable features.
