Water Control Systems
Water control systems also called water leak detection systems, are systems that monitor the pressure, temperature, and flow rate of water in your home. It can detect leaks and water temperature, show you how much water you are using, and remotely shut off the water.
Look for systems that have an easy-to-use interface that notifies you of leaks in real-time and provides you the option to shut off your water if necessary. Note that almost all home automation systems require a live WiFi internet connection in your home to function properly. If you want to store the data from the device, find out how it is stored when the internet is down (cloud, USB device, etc.), and how to retrieve the data.
Water control systems are a good fit for homeowners who want to make improvements to their water usage or reduce the likelihood of water damage. A water control system can be retrofitted into existing homes and is a great addition to homes that are susceptible to water damage such as:
- Older homes
- Homes on a floodplain
- Homes with a history of water damage, and
- Homes without easy access to the foundation
Knowing how much water you use is a great step toward reducing your water consumption. If you have a leak, you'll know right away and can turn off the water from wherever you are. This can avoid water damage and possibly saving you significant money and time on repairs.
On average, households in the United States waste more than 10,000 gallons of water every year due to leaks. That is the equivalent of 270 loads of laundry!
